Raw Diet Recipe
*************Thanks to Carole Uhler of Destyny Sphynx for this great Recipe**************
She has been feeding a raw diet for eight years and has been pleased with it, she dosen't even feed commercial cat
food when on vacation. It may seem like a lot of work at first, but once you get the hang of it it's not too bad.
There are commercial raw diets available for purchase, but I don't feel comfortable with them.
We here at *InFurNo* are also going to use this Recipe -- Thanks again Carole.!!!
Meat
80% chicken necks. The balance of protein, calcium, and phosphorus is perfect in necks and backs, but is not a
good balance in other chicken parts.
10% ground beef, Use less expensive ground beef because you need the higher fat content.
10% consisting of a combination of beef liver and beef heart. Make sure to use the blood that may be in the beef
heart package because it contains a high concentration of the taurine that cats require in their diet.
Veggies
Veggies are always a combination of at least 7 varieties that are put through a food processor and finely chopped.
The cabbage family (broccoli, cauliflower, etc.) should never exceed 10% of the total amount of veggies used
because of thyroid issues.
Using a wide variety of veggies is very improtant. An example of a batch of veggies that I would make is: zucchini,
yellow squash, sweet potato, green beans, apples, pears, bottom half of a bunch of asparagas, beets, turnips, celery,
and lots of carrots.
Monthly Preparation (takes about 1 to 1.5 hours)
We prepare a huge batch of veggies and fill sandwich size Ziplok bags. Place these bags in your freezer so they'll
keep fresh.
Buy and bag beef liver and beef heart, keeping the liver and heart in separate bags. We use sandwich sized Ziplok
bags and place enough meat in each bag to last for 2 days of meal preparation.
Weekly Preparation (takes about 30 minutes)
Buy chicken necks and put them though a meat grinder using a coarse cutting setting (usually means use the
cutting plate with the largest holes). About 20 necks make 1 days worth of food for 6 cats. You can adjust this
amount based on the number of cats you have.
I bag the ground chicken necks into Ziplok bags in preparation for freezing. In my case, a quart sized bag will hold 1
days worth of chicken for 6 cats. In any case, you should bag the ground chicken necks in a size such that each bag
represents 1 days worth of chicken for your cats.
Daily Preparation (takes about 10 minutes)
All cats get 1 sq of salmon a day as a treat
In a large bowl, mix 1 bag of thawed ground chicken, 1 oz of beef liver (chopped), 1 oz of beef heart (chopped), 1/4
pound of ground beef, 1 scrambled egg, 4 tablespoons of plain yogurt, 1 tablespoon cooked pumpkin, and 3
tablespoons of the thawed veggies. Mix these ingredients together well.
Serve 1/3 of the mixture in the morning, 1/3 around noon, and 1/3 in the evening. Breaking the servings up this
way allows you to keep the mizture in the refrigerator so the raw meat does not sit out at room temperature for an
extended time. Our cats usually finish up each serving witin an hour.
One day a week we also feed one can of sardines packed in oil.
